Thanks for everyone who came out to support our “Toys for Tots” Christmas giveaway. Over a hundred kids were given a gift that made their holiday a little brighter. The food was delicious and the music was pumping. In other news, the Graff Lab will be closed on both Christmas and New Years weekend. Trespassers will be prosecuted. We appreciate your cooperation. Happy holidays!
Check out this music video from the Concentrates; they’re from Pico Union. The Graff Lab is featured in the video as well as a bunch of other murals in the neighborhood. The Concentrates are Tylana Renga, violin, percussion, Peter Jacobson, cello, guitar, Michael Bolger, accordion, Enrique Roman, bongo, Kuma Jacobson.
Here are some photos from the Lab as well. Be sure to join us on facebook at facebook.com/thegrafflab. We post a ton more pictures there!
A lot of changes have been going at the Graff Lab lately. The USC boxing club is putting the finishing touches on their Graff Lab gym. Ricky is getting the punching bags installed and then things should be pretty much be up and running. Additionally, a ton of new pieces have gone up as well. Take a look at the new face of the Graff Lab at 1038 W. Venice Blvd in Los Angeles.
Here are a bunch of new pictures from March and early April 2011 here at the Graff Lab. We posted a bunch more on our facebook fan page @ facebook.com/grafflab. Ricky is due back from Singapore in the next week so get your cans and sketches ready because we are going to be giving the Graff Lab an overdue facelift.
We have recently come in contact with Maura at Off the Wall Graffiti, a non-profit, community event, mentoring and scholarship foundation designed for students who show a talent in graffiti and a willingness to learn about art. At Off the Wall Graffiti their mission is to elevate the self esteem and talent of under-served 12-19 year old graffiti artists, globally by providing opportunities for students to create, win, learn and be supported in the pursuit of an education in the arts. In any event, they shared a couple of art opportunities with us and we want to share them with you. Good luck!
It’s been over a month since the last post, so thanks for being patient, but a lot has been going on. A couple weeks ago the Graff Lab hosted an event for the folks at City Year who brought their after school class of about 20 to 30 middle schoolers from the surrounding Pico Union neighborhood to the Lab for an art pow-wow. Also we are going to delete the old unofficial facebook page, so be sure to hit us up on our new facebook fan page. We will be posting a bunch more photos on facebook in the future — more than we post here on the website — so definitely “like us” — it will be worth your while. In any event, below you will find a bunch of great new stuff from the likes of Seze, Broak, Aldo and more. Included is also a picture of the cross that Ricky and Lowanna made for Dr. Frank Ryan’s memorial in Malibu in Ventura County. Ricky went down to check on it after six months and it is still in fantastic condition.
A local Los Angeles muscle car club came to the Graff Lab a couple weeks ago to stage some photographs for their website. Here is what they sent us. To find out more about how to throw your event at the Graff Lab, or how to stage your next photo or video shoot, contact Danny Sherman at 310-446-1466 or Rory Delaney at 714-728-0027 or email grafflab@gmail.com.
Check out this bad ass new time lapse courtesy of MBD Films from Saler and 7 others who came by the Graff Lab and threw down on the Saturday before Super Bowl, putting up a huge new elaborate piece in a matter of hours. Good job, guys. The Super Bowl party on Sunday was a big hit. Thanks to all the artists who dropped by and especially to Ricky Guerrero for hosting.
